Webinar Invitation: Dual Citizenship and Immigration Trends in Canada — What It Means for Us

Metropolis Institute and Association for Canadian Studies (ACS) are offering a free webinar that will explore the latest immigration data, including trends related to new citizens, permanent residents, and study permit holders. It will also examine who is applying for Canadian citizenship and the growing prevalence of dual citizenship.

Drawing on recent administrative records, findings from the 2021 Census, and new national survey data collected in December 2025, the session provides insight into how identity, belonging, and citizenship are evolving across Canada.

With more than 3.7 million Canadians—over 11% of the population—now holding dual citizenship, these changes are reshaping communities, service needs, and integration pathways. For organizations working in the immigrant and settlement sector, understanding these emerging trends is increasingly important.

The webinar will unpack:
✔️ Origins of Canada’s dual citizens
✔️ Recent trends on citizenship applications
✔️ Increasing interest in dual citizenship, especially among immigrants and younger Canadians
✔️ Changing perceptions of national identity and belonging in a globalized world
