The Movement of Our Hearts: A Community Response to Racism

 

RRLIP and the Recreating Community Together (RCT) invite community members to join a special gathering in observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. This event is part of a year‑long RCT initiative that mobilizes artists and creative practitioners to address racism and strengthen cross‑cultural understanding. The program is delivered collaboratively by seven partner organizations: Common Weal Community Arts, Dance Saskatchewan, the Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan, On Cue Performance Hub, the Regina Region Local Immigration Partnership, the Saskatchewan Arts Alliance, and the Saskatchewan Music Educators Association.

What to Expect
The event will open with the Vice Regal Salute and greetings from dignitaries, followed by the premiere performance of “The Movement of Our Hearts.” Created by four artists from diverse cultural and racial backgrounds, this new multidisciplinary work responds to themes of racism and colonization.

Attendees can explore displays and presentations highlighting the year‑long Recreating Community Together program. The gathering will conclude with a community talkback and sharing circle, as well as a multicultural feast. Her Honour the Honourable Bernadette McIntyre, S.O.M., along with elders and other dignitaries, will offer reflections during the event.
