Free Online Conference: South Asian Honour-based Violence & Gang Prevention

About this Online Conference
hosted by Centre for Newcomers Society of Calgary

This is a youth-led event dedicated to raising awareness about violence and gang involvement, and to exploring how  honor-based violence within homes can manifest as violence on the streets.

The first two days of the workshop will focus on honor-based violence and threat assessment, led by our subject matter expert from the South Asian community. On the third day, we will build on these learnings through open discussions,  storytelling, and community dialogue about how family dynamics, intergenerational trauma, mental health challenges,  and substance use intersect to influence youth experiences and deter them from engaging in criminal activity.

Featuring presentations from:

  • Kids Play Foundation,
  • Youth Panel,
  • Punjab Community Health Services, and
  • CPS-Youth Link
