Family Literacy Week Activities: Jan. 24 - Jan.30th

January 24th to 30th is Family Literacy Week in Saskatchewan and Jan. 27th is Family Literacy Day!

Canada has celebrated this day for over 20 years!

This year's theme is Travel the World Together! Families are encouraged to use your imagination to travel, explore your own community, and learn about other cultures.

Family literacy refers to the learning that takes place within the family and is particularly important for newcomers! This is a great time for children and other family members to learn together and practice their English or French reading and language skills.

Literacy learning starts early in life. Language learning is the foundation of literacy: talking, singing, rhyming, playing, and book sharing all build language skills. Everyday life brings opportunities for learning that helps adults and children build relationships, gain skills, accomplish work, and participate fully in their communities.

To celebrate this year's Family Literacy Week, families are invited to particpate in the following free, online activity:
Online reading event with Saskatchewan author Ruth Wellborn
"Never Rub Noses With a Narwhal"
January 27 at 10:30 a.m. (CST)
There is no registration, and the event is free.

Ruth has also shared some great activities to do as a family.
