SSILC Employment Classes

South Saskatchewan Independent Living Centre (SSILC) is pleased to offer the following Employment classes in July:

Food Security and Nutrition

Monday, July 8th, 1:00pm - 3:30pm
This module has three components:

  • Grocery shopping, making a list, saving money on groceries, and accessing resources for food security if needed.
  • Limiting processed foods, the Canada Food Guide, drinking water, mindful eating, and food marketing. Set realistic goals about diet.
  • Portion sizes. Food tracker and creating a meal planning chart.

Budgeting

Monday, July 15th from 1:00pm - 3:30pm

Examine what consumers spend their money on and the need versus wants equation. There is an exercise where we look at a fictitious person’s expenditures and balance a budget for them, identifying sources of income and working on creating a budget that works for them.

Tailoring Your Resume

Wednesday and Thursday, July 17-18, 2024, 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon
Location: SSILC Office, 349 Albert St., Regina

Program Overview:
This class will focus on reading job posts and tailoring resumes to match the employer's requirements.

Program Highlights:
Participants will:

  • Identify keywords in the job post 
  • Use SMART statements to enhance their resume 
  • Develop and practice resume writing techniques 
  • Actively engage in discussions with other participants about resume writing

Eligibility Requirements: Participants must have a completed resume prior to the class. They should also possess the self-management skills to actively engage in this resume writing class.

If you are not already a SSILC consumer, contact us at 306-757-7452 or [email protected] for an intake, which will include completing the Career and Employment Services Registration form, an action plan, and a referral to a SSILC facilitator.

Health Management

Monday, July 22nd from 1:00pm - 3:30pm

  • Who can make a healthcare team, protect patient rights, and take medicine safely?
  • Healthy lifestyle assessment, and choose a health-related goal.
  • Self care and sleep.
  • Orientation on medication and sleep tracking sheets.
