Regina Open Door Society (RODS) Career Bridging Program

This employment program includs four weeks of classroom Training followed by four weeks of Job Shadowing and Experimental Learning starting November 12, 2024.

Regina Open Door Society (RODS) - Employment Readiness workshops (online/in-person)

Starting on November 4th, 2024, this workshop is accessible to all newcomers to Canada (focusing on but not limited to newcomers within the past 5 years) aged 16 and above who experience cultural and or language/ literacy barriers to employment.

Participants must demonstrate a CLB 4+ level of English proficiency for Daytime workshop and CLB3+ for Evening Workshops.

To enroll in the workshop, interested clients must be registered with Employment Services and meet with their Employment Counselor for the workshop/ certification need  assessment.

Trauma-Informed and Cultural Sensitivity Training (T.A.C.T.)
The T.A.C.Training offered by the Community Arts Mentorship Program! This important training will equip participants with tools for trauma-informed community engagement and respectful cultural practices, especially when working with First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities.

Dates: November 1-3, 2024
Location: Regina (Venue TBA) on Treaty 4 Territory, homeland of the Métis.
Cost: Sliding scale $100 - $300 (Supported by SaskCulture)
During this 16-hour program, you’ll learn about Cultural Protocol, Trauma-Informed Delivery, Reconciliation Practices, Legalities of Abuse & Suicide Disclosures, The Blanket Exercise, and more!

Regina Public Library Law Fair

RPL hosting an upcoming Law Fair as part of Access to Justice Week, they have a tradeshow on the mezzanine with many different organizations (at least 16) that provide services and supports for those seeking legal assistance or help navigating the law. 

There will be free drop in family law help with family lawyers – first come first served.

Date & Time: Nov 2, 2024 at 11:30am-2:30pm
Location: Seminar Rooms inside The Commons.

There will be 5 different presentations, drop-in (no need to register), in the Community Commons. Topics include:Rights and Responsibilities as a Renter in Saskatchewan –

  • Davida Bentham, Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan – 11am
  • Wills/Estates/Guardianship – Aadon Fieger, McDougall Gauley LLP - 12pm
  • Understanding Small Claims Court – Logan Salm, OWZW – 1pm
  • Who to Call When You Have an Employment Problem – Lindsay Hjorth, GRJ – 2pm
  • Labour Standards – 3pm

Regina Open Door Society's Health Fair for Newcomers 

RODS in collaboration with Saskatchewan Health Authority, is organizing Health Fair 2024. This is a one-stop shop that provides information and resources to Newcomers to Regina about health services, programs, and organizations that can help them in their settlement journey.

Date: November 15th
Time: 10:00am - 3:00pm
Location: Main Floor, 2314 11th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 0K1 

Interpretation service will be provided for some of the high-need languages such as: Arabic, Dari, Pashto, Somali and Swahili.
There’s metered parking along 11th avenue, Smith Street and Lorne Street.

What to Expect:

  • Free Diabetes Screening.
  • Free Blood Pressure Screening
  • Information on Dental Hygiene.
  • Information on Mental Health and Addiction.
  • One-on-One Consultation with Nurse Practitioners.
  • Information about Immunization and Flu from Public Health Nurses.
  • Talk to a Dietician about healthy nutrition.

Who is this event for?

Newcomers to Canada (Immigrants and Refugees) who are new to Regina and Canada.

Anyone seeking information about Healthcare and Healthcare support in Canada.
