Celebrating National Indigenous Languages Day: Learning the Voices of the Land We Share

National Indigenous Languages Day provides a meaningful opportunity for the Regina Region Local Immigration Partnership (RRLIP) to honour the rich linguistic heritage of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. These languages carry knowledge, identity, and cultural teachings that have shaped the land newcomers now call home.

As RRLIP supports the successful settlement and inclusion of newcomers, we also recognize the importance of building understanding and respect for Indigenous peoples and cultures. Learning about Indigenous languages—many of which are undergoing revitalization—helps strengthen relationships and deepen our collective awareness of the history and resilience of Indigenous communities.

Today, we invite newcomers, partners, and community members to reflect on the significance of Indigenous languages and to join us in supporting efforts to preserve, revitalize, and celebrate them. These languages are not only part of Canada’s past, but also a vital part of its future.
