June is Pride Month! Global Celebration June 27th
June is known around the world to be proclaimed as "Pride Month".
Regina's Pride Festival is called Queen City Pride and is a 10-day celebration of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer (LGBTQ) community with a highlight being the annual Pride Parade. Due to the COVID-19 situation, organizers of Queen City Pride 2020 have made the decision to postpone this year’s festival to September 2020. As a result of Pride organisations worldwide having to cancel or postpone their Pride celebrations due to COVID-19, Global Pride 2020 provides an opportunity for the LGBTQ community around the world to come together on Saturday, June 27th to celebrate diversity and equality during these challenging times.
Global Pride 2020 is as a partnership between national Pride networks in several countries. It’s being led by a team of volunteers from every region of the world who are all committed to ensuring that everyone, everywhere, can take part in Pride this June. As 70 countries worldwide continue to view same-sex relations as a crime (and in seven of those countries it is punishable by death) it is important that we recognize that many newcomers have found great comfort in the safety and acceptance that Canada provides to LGBTQ individuals.
