Opportunity for Newcomer Youth to Brighten the Holiday Season for Seniors

Newcomer youth ages 13-18 are invited to participate in this meaningful community project!

Due to COVID-19, many elderly people will not be able to celebrate the Canadian holiday season with their family and friends. The holiday season is an important time for many Canadians, and this year's pandemic has left our elderly people feeling very alone and isolated.

What is the project?

  • Youth will have the opportunity to create holiday/winter/Christmas cards that will be delivered to different senior homes in December.
  • RODS will provide participants with art supplies, to be used to design your very own cards! You may want to share a drawing of a holiday in your culture, or you may want to draw a winter scene here in Canada. It is up to you!

  • Within the card, you will have the chance to write a letter about your experience in Canada, your traditional holidays in your home country, and more!

This will be a good chance to learn more about Canadian culture, practice your written communication in English, and connect with members of your community! You may even receive a letter in return.

When will the project occur?

  • Upon registering for this program, a RODS staff will contact participants with a date and time to pick-up their supplies. (Pick up will occur between December 1st and December 3rd).

  • Cards must be returned to RODS by December 17th, to ensure they are delivered in time for Christmas!
