Even Amid This Pandemic, Canada Continues to Support Immigration
A recent article in the CIC News highilghts Canada's efforts to strike a balance between containing COVID-19 and supporting the stability and rebound of the economy by inviting global talent and foreign nationals into the country.
The article mentions that while most other countries have completely shut their borders, Canada continues to invite immigrants, due to a "recognition that newcomers are part of the solution to supporting its economy during this challenging period, as well as the country’s unwavering commitment to reuniting family members even in the wake of its travel restrictions."
The article goes on to explain the immigration streams that are still being supported, including permanent residents, international students and temporary foreign workers. It also draws attention the fact that regardless of their immigration status, individuals within Canada may be eligible for Employment Insurance or the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit, through Service Canada.
