Regina Preparing to welcome Newcomers
City Preparing to Welcome Newcomers
November 26, 2015
The City of Regina is supporting local agencies to ensure a smooth and successful transition for Syrian newcomers. Collaborations are underway between federal, provincial, and municipal governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
“We are thrilled to support the Regina Open Door Society (RODS) to help newcomers settle into our community,” said Mayor Michael Fougere. “Regina has a proud history and reputation as a caring and diverse community, so I am confident that all of us will welcome our new neighbours warmly."
Residents who wish to make local monetary donations can do so through the Regina Open Door Society website at rods.sk.ca. RODS uses monetary donations to support immigrants and refugees to Regina through ongoing services and programs.
The City is working with RODS to determine what household and clothing donations will be most needed. More information about how the community can provide support through donations and volunteer efforts will be released as it becomes available. In the meantime, many local charitable organizations are accepting donations that support the settlement of newcomers in Regina.
