Right by You - Parent Tip #8

Parent Tip #8:

Be a good listener.

There are times when a teen may want to talk, but a parent or caregiver isn’t listening because they’re busy or distracted. Or maybe they only listen long enough to jump in with advice or a lecture. It’s important to give the conversation your full attention. By being a good listener and waiting to respond, you will prompt deeper and more meaningful conversations.

Why this matters
By being attentive and really listening, you are showing respect and your teen will feel like they are being heard. You also become much better equipped to respond and help your teen if needed.
