Regina's Sikh Community Supporting People in Need
Members of Regina's Sikh community have started a "free kitchen" initiative, giving out food to those who are less fortunate. Members of their volunteer group take turns purchasing the food and donating to the cause.
The kitchen is open every Sunday, on the corner of Dewdney Avenue and Angus Street, in Regina. Over 250 people have consistently been using this service each week and have been very appreciative of the support.
Volunteers explained that "giving back to the community is part of their culture". Any food that is not given away that afternoon is donated to the YWCA.
