Parents of Teenagers - Parent Tip #10 - from 'Right by You'

Parent Tip #10:

Give your teen some control.

When interacting with your teen, give them control over the conversation and the experience.

Letting them determine when, where, and how they want talk can help them feel more comfortable with opening up.

If you’re looking to spend quality time together, give your teen different options or ideas, and let them choose what they would like to do together.

Why this matters

During the teenage years, adolescents are learning to become more independent and are searching for their own individual identity. Supporting their growth to greater independence and personal decision-making will build their confidence, self-esteem and trust in your relationship.
